Amanda and Mae have been together for almost three years, after falling in love in downtown Anchorage, Alaska. Amanda is from a military family and was born in Florida. Mae was born in the beautiful nation of the Philippines.
They were married this past May in Hawaii, but currently live together in Alaska. Amanda is an Aircraft Flight Equipment Technician in the United States Air Force, and Mae works in the medical field. They have been through two deployments together, and are preparing to move to Okinawa, Japan, for their next duty station.
Mae inspires Amanda to always do her best and to aim for the future. “Mae is beautiful from the inside out. From day one she has supported my every dream and made it clear that she didn’t want to hold me back from any opportunity.”
Amanda and Mae are a dream team. They keep each other leveled, while supplying comfort, support, and love. They remind everyone who is going through a deployment that it isn’t the end of the world, and it doesn’t have to be a bad thing. During their last deployment, Mae went on an adventure on her own to India where she practiced medicine. “At the ends of our adventures, we had so many stories to share with each other. We stay strong for each other; each individual will have their own battles to fight.”
Since the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and the demise of the Defense of Marriage Act, life has dramatically changed for the better. “We got our happy ever after.” They are very thankful that their dreams are no longer fairytales, but reality.
The American Military Partner Association means one word to this couple: HOPE. “A light where many might have expected darkness, AMPA is truly paving the way for equality.” AMPA is providing everyone with a place to be themselves, and to serve their nation open and honestly.
