Navigating Your Benefits for Military Families

The recognition of same-gender military spouses and their families comes with an array of benefits in various areas, some of which may be unfamiliar to you. The American Military Partner Association was proud to host a four-part series online called “Navigating Your Benefits for Military Families” on education, health care, employment, and financial services.

This first webinar is an overview of educational resources provided through the DOD, VA, and various private organizations. Whether you are a seasoned student or are thinking of setting off on the path to a degree/certification/licensure, there are programs for financial assistance, transferability, in state residency, and more. Listen to Alison Hansen, Associate Director of Thomas Edison State College’s Office of Military & Veteran Education and Bianca Strzalkowski, Founder of the Military Spouse Education Initiative, who discuss the Post 9/11 GI Bill, MyCAA program, and much more.

The purpose of our Military Health Care Webinar is to empower military families to know the vast benefits available to them through the military healthcare system, including various services that exist for our exceptional family members with special needs. Our panelists include Stephen Peters, AMPA President; Wendy Kruse, Founder of the Military Special Needs Network, Gloria Bryant, Former USMC Family Readiness Officer & DEERS Manager; and Alicia Hinds Ward, 2013 Military Spouse of the Year & Special Needs Advocate.

This third part of our series includes a presentation from Blue Star Families on their resume toolkit, which includes helping spouses translate their volunteer experience to their resume; a presentation from Military Spouse Corporate Career Network on their free programs for AMPA members, to include helping spouses find a job, resume services and mock interviews; and a presentation from Military Spouse Business Association on entrepreneurship! Our panelists include Erin Voirol, Executive Director, Military Spouse Corporate Career Network; Joanna Williamson, Founder, Military Spouse Business Association; Kelly Henry, Deputy Director for Volunteer Outreach, Blue Star Families; Roxanne Reed, Founder of the Military Spouse Foundation and Owner of Jane Wayne Gear; and Rose Holland, Employment Readiness Program Specialist, Ft. Meade Army Community Service.

This fourth part of our series includes information on military entitlements, on and off base financial resources such as the branch aid societies, Military OneSource’s free financial counseling, the military’s free Personal Financial Consultants, budgeting, and more! The presentation is led by Adrianna Domingos-Lupher. Adrianna is the founder of Military Money Chica, the Editor-in-Chief at NextGen Milspouse, and ran the Personal Financial Management Program at the Family Support Center in RAF Lakenheath.
